For years I would drive around noticing all the black streaks on most roofs. I would think to myself, “their has to be a way to clean a roof.” I did months of research on roof cleaning. I found out the roof stain was actually a type of algae called Gloeocapsa Magma. This type of algae is contained in and transported through the air and tends to collect and grow on your roof. The pigments produced by this algae can cause a white roof to turn black.
Why should you hire a roof cleaner?
The gloeocapsa magma is actually eating your roof. The reason you didn’t see the stains 20-30 years ago is because the shingle manufacturers changed the materials they used to make shingles. They now include limestone, which the gloeocapsa magma feeds on. This feeding causes loss of granules which provide the U. V. protection for your roof. It will also hold moisture, which causes moss and lichens to grow, further deteriorating your roof. The black mold also collects more heat, causing not only damage due to excessive heat but it also causes a rise in air conditioning costs. Another great reason for roof cleaning is cosmetics. It just plain looks horrible. I have a lot of customers call me when planning a party, hoping to get their roof cleaned so their friends won’t see it.
What is the roof cleaning process? Let me first start out by saying you DO NOT clean a roof with a pressure washer. Some “roof cleaners” are going around spraying sodium percarbonate on your roof and then pressure washing it off. Do not hire them. They are damaging your roof and voiding your warranty. If they tell you different they are lying. Our roof restoration, roof reviver or simply roof cleaning process is endorsed by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association(ARMA), meaning we use approved cleaning chemicles and no harmful pressure. Our roof reviver or roof cleaning process consists of a small 12 volt pump. That is all, almost like magic it will clean your roof. It will sometimes take 2-3 coats to remove all the roof stains, but no pressure washers are ever used. When we are done your roof will be about 90 to 95% clean. One good rain is all you need to finish the roof cleaning. If your roof has moss or lichens on it we will immediately kill them, but it will take a few weeks for their roots to dislodge from your shingles. Give us a call for a free demonstration, let’s see how clean we can get your roof. Let us be your roof cleaner.
